Corin Tucker - 1,000 Years

Posted on July 12, 2010 | Comments (0)

Pitchfork just gone and done right with details of Corin’s upcoming solo record. Revealing the title 1,000 Years track listing, cover art and snippets from the press release:

“acoustic guitars, keyboards, interlocking percussion, even cellos and violins,” so this should sound pretty different from Sleater-Kinney (or pretty different from loud Sleater-Kinney, anyway; softer songs like “The Swimmer” and “The Size of Our Love” included at least a few of those instruments).

Go ahead and view all that good stuff directly.

Corin talks new record

Posted on April 8, 2010 | Comments (0)

Corin spoke with the Portland Mercury to discuss her upcoming solo album set for an October release on Kill Rock Stars.

How would you describe the sound of the record, particularly in comparison to Sleater-Kinney?
I think some of the songs are in the ballpark. It’s definitely my voice and my songwriting style. But like I said, it’s different instrumentation on some of the songs and a different collaboration. Seth’s producing and arranging things, so that’s different, too. It may be more traditional with some of the arrangements.

The entire interview can be read at Portland Mercury.

Carrie: No new band with Janet

Posted on March 25, 2010 | Comments (1)

Pitchfork caught up with Carrie to clarify the deal with this “new band” with Janet as was previous reported by IFC. Just as we squee with glee from the news, Carrie dispels the report.

“Well, I feel like the reports of that were greatly exaggerations. I did do some work with Janet for a documentary film last summer. That’s not really a band. I enlisted her to help me with that, and we wrote a couple songs for it that will only be put out with this movie. The way that it came across in the edit of the interview made it sound like I had this new band. Yes, I was excited to play some music last summer, and that definitely got me kind of back in the mindframe of wanting to play music again. But certainly I wouldn’t want to… I mean, it was for a film project.”

Carrie also goes on to discuss acting, writing, and of course a little Sleater-Kinney thrown in for good measure. The entire interview can be read over at Pitchfork.

Carrie is doing the press rounds at SXSW promoting Some Days Are Better Than Other. She spoke with Michael Hoinski of IFC to discuss the film, music, her new band with Janet and of course, the possibility of creating music as Sleater-Kinnney again.

Are you missing playing music?
I am. And I just started a new band after taking many much-needed years off from playing. I can’t really talk about it that much, but we have seven songs, and there are four of us, and we’re based in Portland — but not all of our members live there.

Can you give me any clues?
I can tell you that Janet Weiss from Sleater-Kinney is also in it.

The full interview can be read at IFC.com.

What is this? TWO updates in a single day?! Nevah! - I’ve just uploaded behind the scenes photos and promotional stills from Some Days Are Better Than Others, yoinked from the official website.

  • Film: Some Days Are Better Than Others
  • The trailer for Carrie Brownstein’s upcoming film Some Days Are Better Than Others was released online this week. The feature written and directed by Matt Mccormick and co-starring The Shins’ James Mercer is “…a poetic, character-driven feature-length film that asks why the good times slip by so fast while the difficult times seem so sticky.”

The official website for the film also is up at somedaysthemovie.com. Be sure to direct your eyes there for more information including future screenings.

This is by far my most anticipated post-SK project by any of the ladies. I’ve enjoyed Carrie’s previous ventures into film and if the talent and trailer is anything to go by, Some Days Are Better Than Others is set to form a lump at the back of your throat.
